Vandals doused the monument erected in Dobrich park with white and pink paint. Apparently, the crime was committed at night, under cover of darkness. It should be noted that this is the second such attack by vandals on the monument, the first was carried out on April 8, when unknown persons wrote on it: “Death to the occupiers”, “Death to Alesham!”

“In recent years, monuments and plaques have become targets for vandals,” the Dobrich municipality commented on the incident in an official statement. “Such an act is completely unacceptable, because monuments are not only a place of our collective memory, but also part of the personal memories of our contemporaries. Such actions are not only a manifestation of aggression, they also indicate a low level of self-awareness among those who committed them, because vandalism is a sign not of an attitude, but of a lack of it.”

The Dobrich administration also assured that it would make every effort to return the monument to its original condition. The aggressive and mocking act caused a corresponding reaction from local residents.

“Stop cleaning up after them,” Alexandra Yashkina wrote in the comments to the municipality’s Facebook post. – Catch these degenerates and then you will be sure that they have stopped crap. Here is a specific proposal: 1. A fine of two thousand leva (more than 80 thousand rubles - ed.), and pay immediately. 2. If the person caught is a minor, then the parents must pay. 3. If this money is not available, then the person must be sentenced to correctional labor until he collects the amount and pays off the damage caused to him. 4. The person caught should be warned that in case of a repeat offense the fine will be doubled.”

“It’s outrageous that the municipality turns a blind eye to this,” Dimitar Berov criticizes local authorities. – If you are caught without a mask – a fine of 5 thousand leva. Then make a fine of 10 thousand leva for desecration of monuments and memorial graves! If necessary, install cameras and organize police duty. And if they can't protect the monument with cameras, order them to stand there until the alleged culprit is caught! Give him a 10 thousand fine and a year of probation, post information about him to the public and see if anyone else will decide to do this. You don’t need to think a lot, you need to act, not talk.”

In turn, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry also condemned the act of vandalism, but in a rather original formulation, corresponding to the general tone of the current regime in Sofia (Bulgaria is a member of NATO and the EU):

“We condemn the act of vandalism and express the hope that the responsible services will identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. “We condemn attacks on monuments, regardless of their motives, as this is unacceptable and does not correspond to the democratic values defended by the state.”

The monument in Dobrich was erected in 1949 as a sign of gratitude to the Red Army, which liberated the city from the Nazis.
