In Britain they are going to ban REN TV and NTV Mir
The British media regulator Ofcom is considering the possibility of taking action against not only RT, but also REN TV and NTV Mir in connection with complaints about violations of the principles of impartiality and reliability, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was announced by Ofcom chief Sharon White at a parliamentary hearing.
“We are looking at them right now,” she was quoted as saying by the BBC. White did not specify what exactly the claims against REN TV and NTV Mir are.
Regarding RT, Ofcom, according to Whyatt, is now conducting “investigations into 10 cases” of biased and untruthful coverage of various topics, in particular the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine, the situation in Syria, and the poisoning of the Skripals.
Ofcom may initiate an investigation if it believes that a broadcaster or service provider has contravened the regulator's charter, license conditions, broadcasting rules or other Ofcom requirements. Licenses can be revoked for flagrant violations of the broadcasting code, White said at the hearing.
The British media regulator, as White emphasized, treats small channels less strictly than the main British broadcasters - BBC, Channel 4, Sky and ITV - including because the share of their audience in the UK is very small.
