Alan Duncan, Secretary of State for European and American Affairs of the British Foreign Office, stated this today in Kyiv at the “Yalta European Strategy” conference.
“Russia has become more aggressive, authoritarian and nationalistic. It increasingly identifies itself as in opposition to the Western world. This requires a recalibration of our attitude towards Russia. Britain is participating in exercises in Ukraine, and thousands of British troops are now in Poland. This signals our commitment to collective defense,” Duncan said.
At the same time, the diplomat claims, Britain does not intend to interrupt the dialogue with Russia.
“Firstly, in order to highlight our differences regarding Russia’s actions in Ukraine. We also have a common interest - the fight against terrorism and climate change. We believe that any government response that unnecessarily complicates the situation in terms of “them and us” will only move us away from solving global problems. The British approach is, as Theresa May says: work hard, but stay alert,” Duncan said.
