British prison prevents Karadzic from preparing for appeal
The first president of the Republika Srpska, Radovan Karadzic, sentenced to life imprisonment, three weeks after being transferred to a British prison, cannot prepare to appeal his sentence due to the conditions created by his jailers.
This was reported by RTRS, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the prisoner's daughter, Sonja Karadzic-Jovicevic, British jailers from Parkhurst prison on the Isle of Wight have still not handed over personal belongings, records, documents to Radovan Karadzic and have not allowed him to use a computer. The convict does not have a watch, he cannot manage his finances because they have not been converted into pounds, and Karadzic has to call his family with the money he borrows.
“At first he could only call my number, but recently he was allowed to call two more lawyers, a legal adviser and one grandson out of four,” said the daughter of the first president of the RS. “The number and duration of calls were limited, several hours had to pass between two calls, and the longest conversation with my father lasted ten minutes.”
According to Karadzic-Jovicevic, due to lack of money, her father is forced to eat what is offered to prisoners in prison, which does not correspond to the diet he should follow as recommended by his doctor. And he still doesn't know about all the rights he has in prison because he can't read about them.
“Now we are asking to hire a lawyer there who will help defend him and help him use all that he can of the rights that belong to him,” said the prisoner’s daughter.
According to her, Karadzic is in solitary confinement in prison and does not meet with any other prisoners; he received the first letter from a Serbian family in Switzerland, which made the politician happy. Through his daughter Sonja Karadzic thanked those who congratulated him on his 76th birthday on Saturday, June 19.
“I pray for all Serbs, for the Republika Srpska and Serbia, that dear God and Saint Basil of Ostrog, glory and grace to Him, grant them health, every achievement, unity, a happy and serene life,” Karadzic addressed his compatriots.
Radovan Karadzic is a psychiatrist, poet, politician and the first president of Republika Srpska, who defended the Bosnian Serbs from the aggression of the Islamist regime in Sarajevo. According to schemes invented by American political strategists, he was accused of the non-existent “genocide in Srebrenica” and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Hague Court.
