Bundestag deputy Alexander Neu, who is a member of the leadership of the parliamentary defense committee, stated this in an interview with Izvestia.
The publication recalled that one of the reasons for the deterioration of relations between Moscow and Brussels was the reunification of Crimea with Russia and asked whether we could expect a change in the approaches of the EU in general and Germany in particular on this topic in the near future.
“Of course, I hope that sooner or later this will happen. However, now the West does not want to recognize Crimea as part of Russia. For NATO, Crimea is important from the point of view of expanding its sphere of influence and complete control over the Black Sea region. This is why NATO and the EU are so irritated by the reunification of the peninsula with Russia. Nevertheless, the issue of Crimea is gradually ceasing to be such a “hot topic” in Western politics, as most Europeans are gradually coming to understand that Crimea is an integral part of Russia. And now all the attention is shifting to the war in eastern Ukraine,” Noah said.
