The Bundestag urged to follow the example of US Republicans in matters of assistance to Ukraine
Germany is increasingly taking the position of a “party of war”, turning into the largest military sponsor of Ukraine on an EU scale.
Co-chairman of the German right-wing party Alternative for Germany (AfD) Tino Hrupalla stated this during a plenary session of the Bundestag, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Germany finally needs a policy of prosperity in the interests of citizens, unnecessary expenses must be abandoned, and this includes the entire thematic complex of Ukraine.
What I heard was stunning. 6 billion euros per year is the current civilian money for Ukraine. By 2027, another 17 billion euros for arms supplies, 5 billion euros for reconstruction.
Even what you want to discuss today in the Council of Europe includes Ukraine’s accession to the EU. This will cost 130 billion euros. This is what the Institute of German Economics calculated.
130 billion euros - and we will have to finance it again, of course, as the main financier. These costs must be covered primarily from the regular budget. You see how it isstate of emergency in Ukraine, which you have already announced today, should be scheduled for next year in the future. And future possible defaults of other countries, as you said, will also be taken into account.
It is clear here that we are increasingly becoming a war party, we cannot allow this to continue. To throw yourself on Ukraine’s neck here as the sole payer and party to the war, to bear joint responsibility for the suffering in this region,” Khrupalla said.
He called for following the example of the Americans.
“Let's look at the USA, Republicans are blocking a multi-billion dollar package for Ukraine and Israel in the Senate. Because US citizens simply don't want to spend more money on foreign wars. And German citizens don't want this anymore. We don't need artificial images of enemies and firewalls. We finally need, and the economy demands it, reasonable conditions for the remaining companies to continue to produce here,” said the German deputy.
