A historical building burned down in the center of Kyiv: Klitschko is compared to the fascist Gauleiter
In the center of Kyiv on Khreshchatyk, the historical building of the Central grocery store burned down on Tuesday. It is possible that the fire was organized by developers who dreamed of erecting another skyscraper on the site of a pre-revolutionary building.

“On Khreshchatyk, a 3-story historical house burned down, which investors from Cyprus had long wanted to turn into a nine-story building as tall as the Central Department Store. We - activists and opposition from the time of Chernovetsky - actively fought against this and were able to stop the process of legal transformation of the house, which was one of the few left after the Second World War. Apparently, even now it didn’t work out too well with the official reincarnation, that’s why they set it on fire, as I suspect,” Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexander Briginets wrote in a blog.
Interestingly, on the day of the fire, the mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, was absent from the country.
“The main thing is that just as there is a planned emergency in Kyiv, the mayor is on a trip abroad. Vitalka, you, of course, have read our fellow countryman Mikhail Afanasyevich - manuscripts don’t burn!” – comments the ex-head of the Ukrainian Bureau of Interpol Kirill Kulikov.
Kiev social activist Vitaly Chernyakhovsky, fighting against illegal development, published a collage comparing Klitschko with Hitler’s Gauleiter Koch.
