Trees are being massively cut down in the center of Simferopol: Residents of the Crimean capital are outraged
A scandal is breaking out in the capital of Crimea with the massive cutting down of trees in the center of Simferopol. Local residents fear that the “reconstruction” initiated by the authorities threatens to turn the city into a complete parking lot.
Despite the promise of the Simferopol mayor Gennady Bakharev that during the large-scale reconstruction of Pushkin Street only diseased trees will be cut down, and that public hearings will be held on this matter, last weekend municipal services cut down a significant part of the plantings.
Officials, in response to the dissatisfaction of Simferopol residents, promised to plant even more trees in return.
Today, the story of cutting down trees continued - plantings near the main office of the Crimean branch of United Russia on the street lost their crowns. Shpolyanskaya. Eyewitnesses report similar “shaping” of trees on other streets of Simferopol.

“The city is rapidly losing its lungs: Zhukovsky (we remember, the trees there were “electric”, so they were quietly cut down on the day off), Salgir (the ONF shook its finger), the airport, Sevastopolskaya, Pushkin. The plane trees near the Pioneer Palace survived only by a miracle, thanks to three caring journalists,” local reporter Marina Reznikova complains indignantly in her blog.
Let us remind you that this is not the first time that Simferopol activists are fighting against the massive cutting down of trees in the city. Thus, in 2011, protests were organized against the cutting down of trees during the reconstruction of Gorky Street. However, they did not lead to anything - instead of uprooted trees, utility workers planted new ones - dwarf linden trees. Now, what was once one of the most shady streets in the city is burning out under the sun's rays, and most of the linden trees have not taken root.
