About it  said Secretary of the Chernigov City Council Vladislav Kukhar, who heads the corresponding commission for renaming streets.

According to him, in total there are more than 550 streets and alleys in Chernigov. Since 1991, 36 streets and avenues have been renamed, first of all, Lenin Avenue became Peace Avenue, and October Revolution Avenue became Victory Avenue. Some Chernigov streets have been given back their historical names that they had before the Soviet era. In particular, in the central part of the city the historical names of the streets Magistratskaya, Preobrazhenskaya, Pyatnitskaya, Mstislavsko and the like have been restored.

“Lists of streets that should be renamed have now been sent to members of the street renaming commission,” Kuhar said.

He believes that first of all it is worth changing the names of streets that bear the names of Soviet figures, such as Antonov-Ovseenko, Kirov, Dzerzhinsky.

As you know, on May 15, Petro Poroshenko, despite protests from the Ukrainian and international community and scientists, signed four laws on decommunization, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on April 9.

In turn, as PolitNavigator reported, The OSCE sharply condemned the anti-communist laws adopted in Ukraine, pointing out their anti-democratic nature and the fact that they pose a threat to freedom of speech in the country.

Additionally, the respectable and respected agency Bloomberg in the international business world also criticized the laws signed by Poroshenko, calling it “the triumph of Nazism over communism.” The article dedicated to this event begins with the phrase: “Farewell Lenin, hello Nazi collaborators: the new reality of Ukraine.”
