Chernigov, April 13 (PolitNavigator, Alexandra Ignatieva) – In the Chernigov region, 16 buildings burned down due to the arson of dry grass, reports the press service of the regional department of the State Emergency Service.

Information about the fire was received by rescuers the day before at 14:40 - after the grass was set on fire, gusts of strong wind spread the fire to houses and buildings in the village. Gasichevka Gorodnyansky district.
By the time rescuers arrived, 1 residential building, 7 non-residential buildings, 8 utility structures and 18 hectares of territory were engulfed in fire.
The fire was extinguished for more than seven hours, as a result, six residential buildings, nine household buildings of residents of the locality and material assets worth a total of about 200 thousand hryvnia were saved from the fire.
The probable cause of the fire was carelessness in handling fire by a local temporary worker, a 32-year-old man, who, according to village residents, set fire to the remains of dry vegetation in an open area.
Another department of firefighters from the regional center, two rural fire brigades from the village of Staroselye, a fire tanker and two tractors with plows from the State Enterprise “Gorodnyanskoe Forestry” were involved in extinguishing the fire.
