About it reported on the website of the National Police of Ukraine for the Chernihiv region, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to law enforcement agencies, a 51-year-old man from the Dnepropetrovsk region posted a video on file hosting services and social networks describing the process of launching the Petya.A virus on computers and attached a link to the malicious software. The man himself said that after a hacker attack in June of this year, he uploaded the virus to his account on a file-sharing server, and uploaded links to the file to his blog.
The police found that Petya.A was downloaded 400 times. As investigators found out, companies downloaded the malware to hide traces of “their criminal activities and evasion of paying penalties to the state.” During searches in the man's apartment, police found computer equipment used to spread a computer virus, as well as files with malware. A criminal case was initiated under Part 1 of Article 361 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Unauthorized interference with the operation of electronic computers).
Let us recall that at the end of June, the computers of dozens of large companies and government agencies in Russia and Ukraine were attacked by the Petya.A ransomware virus. Later it also became known about attacks on computers in the USA, India and China. The virus encrypts information on the computer’s hard drive, after which a request appears on the screen to transfer $300 in bitcoins as a ransom for resuming work.
