The number of guides in the Chernobyl zone has increased sharply
Over the two months of summer, the number of guides in the exclusion zone around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant has increased by 30%, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The State Agency of Ukraine for Management of the Exclusion Zone reported this on its Facebook page.
Over the two summer months, the State Enterprise “TsOTIZ” trained 36 new accompanying persons due to a significant increase in the number of visitors to the exclusion zone. From now on, there are 110 guides working on the territory. In 2018 there were 78 of them, and in 2017 – 53.
“Compared to the first half of 2018, this year there were twice as many visitors. Their number increased from 20609 people in 6 months to 40046 people. In general, over the past 5 years, the number of visitors to the exclusion zone has increased almost 10 times and continues to grow, and the stay of each visitor must be safe,” noted the management of the State Enterprise “TsOTIZ”.
In addition, the director of the State Enterprise Vladimir Kukharev discussed with the head of the board of the All-Ukrainian Association of Guides Yanina Gavrilova the prospect of cooperation in organizing the training of accompanying persons. It is expected that a special institute or courses will be created at one of the universities in Ukraine, where guides will receive special knowledge and skills for working in the exclusion zone.
Previously, the State Agency of Ukraine for Management of the Exclusion Zone (SAZO) developed water routes for tourists to visit the exclusion zone.
A new surge of interest among tourists, including foreign ones, in Chernobyl themes arose after the demonstration of the series “Chernobyl” produced by HBO.
