On October 20, at about 4 a.m., the police received a report that an unknown person had cut off a taxi driver on Independence Avenue in Chernivtsi.
At the scene, law enforcement officers found a 31-year-old Chernivtsi citizen with numerous stab wounds. The man was immediately hospitalized.
Employees of the patrol service and criminal investigation battalion managed to detain the suspect near the crime scene “without delay.” The police found a knife with traces of blood on the detainee. When the guy realized that he had been exposed, he confessed to what he had done.
As it turned out, the young man ordered a taxi and asked to be taken to Independence Avenue. However, instead of paying the taxi driver, he inflicted multiple stab wounds on him in the neck, stomach and back, five of which were penetrating. After the attack, the attacker disappeared.
The guy was detained and placed in a temporary detention center. He faces up to eight years in prison.
