In the western Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi, as part of a “decommunization” campaign, a star was painted over on a monument tram installed near the railway station as a reminder of the once popular transport.
The star on the tram was replaced with an image of the coat of arms - a trident.
However, the publication “Young Bukovynets” admits that there were no Ukrainian symbols on the trams that appeared in Chernivtsi at the end of the 19th century under the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
