What is the threat of Poroshenko’s low rating?
The low ratings of Petro Poroshenko, recorded in opinion polls, should not serve as reassurance for opponents of the current regime - in fact, many Ukrainians are simply embarrassed to admit that they are ready to support the government criticized by their opponents.
Ukrainian political scientist Kost Bondarenko spoke about this on air on the Capital channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is a hypothesis that Ukraine is unique in that “shy voters” or “sociological partisans” today are embarrassed to vote for Poroshenko. If in other countries they are embarrassed to say that they are for the opposition or for an outright populist, then here they are ashamed to admit that they will vote for Poroshenko. People are ashamed to say that they will vote for Poroshenko, and he can take advantage of this,” Bondarenko said.
“That is, he is creating a “society of anonymous gunpowder robots,” noted political scientist Dmitry Dzhangirov, the program’s host.
