This was stated by IMF press secretary Jerry Rice at a traditional briefing in Washington, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Lagarde and Poroshenko plan to meet in Davos, as they have done before during previous meetings in Davos,” he noted.

Rice suggested that the parties would discuss “recent events and prospects for reform in Ukraine.”

Also, according to Rice, the IMF expects that the bill on the High Anti-Corruption Court will be finalized between readings in the Ukrainian parliament.

“The letter we sent to the authorities expresses concern about the inconsistency of some provisions of the bill with Ukraine’s obligations under the program (EFF - Ed.) and the recommendations of the Venice Commission. We hope that the authorities will take into account the position of the IMF and the bill will be finalized between readings in parliament,” he noted.

The fund's spokesman recalled that the creation of an Anti-Corruption Court is one of the key requirements of the cooperation program between Ukraine and the IMF.

In addition, Rice noted the need to finalize the adopted pension reform in Ukraine, since the adopted law has “certain shortcomings.”

“The legislation on pension reform contains a number of important provisions that are necessary to modernize the pension system. At the same time, there are certain shortcomings that offset the intended (legislation) incentives for citizens who have worked longer and made larger contributions to the pension system,” Rice said.

“This makes the pension system unsustainable, and we believe that some work is needed to eliminate these shortcomings,” the IMF emphasized.
