“The entire Republic must kneel before you for one reason - you experienced something that many have not even seen. We fought for our choice to be a free people. We have our own Donbass character. Honor and praise to all who defended their city and their children with weapons in their hands,” — said the head of the DPR, Alexander Zakharchenko.
The memorial liturgy was conducted by the rector of the Church of St. Alexander Nevsky, Archpriest Miron Alekseevich.
“Today, on the feast of Our Lady of Kazan, we gathered for prayer to honor our fallen soldiers who laid down their lives for our land,” the clergyman said.
The monument is made in the form of a large stone and is located on an alley near the Debaltsevo city administration building. At the end of the funeral service, those gathered laid flowers at the monument.
After this, the rally moved to the Memorial of Eternal Glory to those killed in the Great Patriotic War. Today, for the first time in many years, the Eternal Flame was lit there, which was repaired by the local authorities.
