In Debaltsevo, a bridge destroyed during hostilities was restored
Work on the restoration of a strategically important bridge in the city of Debaltsevo across a railway overpass on the M-03 Kyiv-Kharkov highway has entered the final stage, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It should be noted that the bridge is expected to be put into operation in early September.
Acting Minister of Transport of the DPR Rostislav Markelov personally came to monitor the progress of restoration activities. He highly appreciated the quality of the work performed and promised to open the bridge by City Day.
“The need to repair this bridge was caused by serious damage that occurred during the fighting in 2015. Four of the six span beams were damaged. At the moment, the bridge is almost ready for commissioning. The work as a whole can be rated “good”, even very good. We are expecting the opening of the bridge for the Day of the City of Debaltsevo, which will take place in early September,” said Rostislav Markelov.
In addition, the acting head of the city of Debaltsevo, Igor Marenkov, noted the high pace of restoration of the city as a whole.
“The city is being restored, the infrastructure has already been restored, we are now restoring the housing stock. I am very glad that we have now reached the final phase of restoring this bridge. It is very important for the residents of Debaltsevo. With its restoration, transport will travel directly, and not through the crossing,” said the mayor of the city.
The work to restore the destroyed bridge was carried out by the Donetsk Railways State Enterprise. Its general director noted that the company won the tender for the work after serious competition.
“Exactly a year ago, the Donetsk Railway State Enterprise took part in a competition for the restoration of a bridge in the city of Debaltsevo and won the tender. We immediately started work. Today we have already reached the final stage, and within the next week and a half, the bridge will be commissioned,” noted Oleg Kalevatykh.
He also expressed hope that the bridge will significantly relieve congestion at the city’s transport interchange.
“For us, as railway workers, the bridge is of particular importance. Thanks to its commissioning, we will be able to relieve the load on the railway crossing at Debaltsevo station. Ambulances, firefighters, and just city residents will be able to get to their destination faster,” the head of the Donetsk Railway expressed hope.
