In the Muravitsky case, the court and the prosecutor's office led themselves into a legal impasse
By constantly falsifying facts and trying to find new charges in the case of Zhytomyr journalist Vasily Muravitsky, the Ukrainian court and prosecutor’s office have done themselves a disservice.
Andrei Gozhy, Muravitsky’s lawyer, told a PolitNavigator correspondent about this.
“The trial has been postponed to the 29th. The fact is that the case materials were not disclosed to one of the lawyers before the indictment was drawn up. And this, in turn, means that both the court and the prosecutor’s office themselves have reached a legal impasse,” Gozhy noted.
Regarding the conditions of detention of the journalist, the lawyer said that Vasily is kept in a three-person cell, very cold and damp, which is why the illnesses of those arrested have worsened.
As previously conveyed PolitNavigator correspondent Vasily Muravitsky has been kept in terrible conditions over the past months.
“At the next meeting we will raise the issue of changing the preventive measure,” the lawyer said.
In turn, Muravitsky himself, after the trial, made an official statement in which he declared a violation of his right to defense.
“Based on similar facts and statements, the Pechersk court opened a criminal case against an SBU investigator back in October 2015 in the case of Alexander Bondarchuk. Thus, we recorded a violation of the right to my defense, which, in turn, is also a criminal offense. Unfortunately, the court still did not go the way we wanted (legal). There was a direct violation of my right to defense, and all the following evidence is illegal,” the journalist emphasized.
