In Dnepropetrovsk, queues near cash registers appeared yesterday morning: buyers crowded near food counters, scattering cereals, flour, sunflower oil, sugar and salt.
In order to somehow contain the excitement, stores began to release no more than five packages of goods at a time. The restriction was circumvented instantly - having skimped, people handed over shopping bags to friends on the street and returned for a new trip, writes the Vesti publication.
One of the large retail chains reminds that over the past 2014 and the beginning of 2015, this is not the first surge in demand for non-perishable social products. “It is likely due to negative consumer expectations against the backdrop of a sharp increase in the value of currency and fuels and lubricants. There are enough products in the company's warehouses. Unfortunately, the company does not have the ability to fight panic and influence the sharp surge in consumer demand,” the network’s press service told the publication.
There is a similar situation in Zaporozhye. In the morning and afternoon there was no sugar in many stores of the ATB chain: yesterday they cleared out almost everything, but today the shelves were gradually filled. A kilogram of sugar, which two days ago cost 10-11 UAH, today costs just over 15 UAH. It was in this chain that salt was also actively dismantled: only “expensive” iodized salt remained on the shelves. The usual “half a container” was swept away very quickly. Things were also sad online with sunflower oil and cereals. On the shelves in the morning and afternoon there were only “branded” bottles of oil with a volume of 870 ml for 22-24 UAH. Liter bottles of more well-known brands were not available. You could buy “basmatic” rice for 33 UAH, which is lower than in the markets, but the budget options “steamed, polished,” which last week cost 17 UAH, were not on sale.
At the same time, in “Silpo” vegetable oil and salt were available, as they say, for every color and taste. There were no bulk cereals, as in most other stores.
According to the Reporter publication, there is no excitement at all in the markets today. Because prices there are already “crisis”: sugar, albeit freely available, costs 21 UAH. I didn’t attract Cossacks for a kilogram.
