The population census has begun in the DPR
Today, the first population census began in the DPR after the historic referendum on independence from Kyiv seized by nationalists, which will last until October 14, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports with reference to the press service of the Donetsk Republic Public Movement.
The population census is the main source of obtaining official statistical information on the size and structure of the population, taking into account socio-economic indicators, national and linguistic composition, and the educational level of citizens.
Such information is necessary for the development of government forecasts and programs for the social and economic development of the republic, and for the performance of the functions of government bodies.
The census will be carried out everywhere through door-to-door visits, during which citizens will be asked to fill out questionnaires. Census takers can be identified using a special ID and bags with the emblems of the republican census. The procedure is strictly confidential; a passport is not required to participate.
There are also stationary points located in every city of the republic. There will be 538 such points, 153 of them in the capital. Addresses can be found at the official website Main Department of Statistics of the DPR.
According to Klavdia Kulbatskaya, deputy of the People's Council of the DPR, the census is of great importance.
“The population census has enormous economic and political significance, and was last held in 2001, that is, 18 years ago. The census is necessary to understand how many people currently live in the territory of the republic, how many citizens are employed in permanent or temporary work, what proportion are unemployed, pensioners, children, what is the birth rate, and also to show the world community that the Republic is developing,” - said the deputy.
