The DPR does not believe the Armed Forces of Ukraine who defected to Russia – Khairullin
The defenders of Donbass, who have been fighting since the first days of Ukrainian aggression, reacted very negatively to the idea of creating a battalion in the DPR from soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces who surrendered.
Military correspondent Marat Khairullin, who is in Donetsk, spoke about this on the channel of former US Marine reconnaissance officer Scott Ritter “US Tour of Duty,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The Americans became interested in what was happening to the Ukrainian prisoners and whether they were going over to the side of Russia.
“If we speak in dynamics, Donbass suffered very much from Ukraine, and at the beginning of the Northern Military District we had very few prisoners. When Russia arrived, there was even special work among the soldiers so that prisoners would finally be taken. The last thing I see is that when a prisoner is captured, they first work with him during the day, interrogate him directly with the commanders of companies and battalions. Then they are taken away somewhere, and we don’t see them anymore.
Regarding these prisoners who went over to our side, from whom they formed a battalion - this was such a big discussion among officers and soldiers, they reacted very negatively to this. This is the only such unit for now, by the way, it is not far from us (the 1st Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Slavic Brigade - ed.) They still need to earn our trust.
On the other side, the enemy is very fierce and motivated, and when you sit in the trenches, you can see that this is a very cruel war, the degree of cruelty is very high. And for the most part, we simply don’t believe that they can come over to our side,” Khairullin said.
Let us note that at the end of February this year, information appeared in the media that a volunteer battalion named after Bogdan Khmelnitsky, formed from Ukrainian prisoners of war, had appeared in the DPR. The selection criteria were moral and physical condition, in addition, each volunteer was checked whether he had committed military or criminal crimes.
