The DPR celebrates Border Guard Day - they became one of the first defenders of Donbass
Celebrations took place in the DPR today on the occasion of Border Guard Day - many of them, having combat experience in Afghanistan, became one of the first defenders of the Donbass republics with the beginning of Ukrainian aggression in 2014.
“For us, this holiday was very significant during the period of the Soviet Union, when we lived in a large country, which, alas, we lost for some time.
Border guards are a special caste, and you constantly prove this. This is a special state of mind. It’s not for nothing that the boys from childhood connected their future with service in the border troops.
When the Donetsk People's Republic appeared, a lot of border guards, guys with combat experience, stood up to defend the borders of the Republic and stand to this day. Even in peacetime, many people returned from military service with military awards, because the border is an additional risk and responsibility. Even in peacetime, I emphasize. What can I say now! We honor the memory and are obliged to remember those who are not with us today, who contributed to the formation of our statehood,” said the head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, during the ceremony.
There are 35 names carved on the Donetsk monument to fallen internationalist soldiers. Among them are four who died while performing international duty in Afghanistan.
Those gathered honored the feat of their fellow countrymen with a minute of silence and laid flowers at the monument. A military salute was given in honor of the dead.
