The DPR honored the memory of its defenders and victims of the barbaric bombings of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
Today, July 27, in the DPR cities of Gorlovka and Shakhtersk, mourning events were held to mark the seventh anniversary of the start of the most brutal bombing by Ukrainian militants.
This was reported by the website of the Donetsk Republic OD, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Let us remind you that on the first day of shelling in Gorlovka alone, 22 civilians were killed. At the same time, the first bombings began on the territory of the Shakhtarsky district.
In his address, the head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, noted that the memory of the victims will live forever, and those responsible for their deaths will certainly be punished.
“The war changed us and our lives forever. These atrocities against humanity have no statute of limitations; they are recorded and constitute a register of war crimes of Ukraine. The perpetrators will be punished,” Pushilin said.
The mayor of Gorlovka, Ivan Prikhodko, also came to the memorial located in the city center to honor the memory of the fallen Gorlovka residents.
“This is how human memory, human nature works, that we get used to everything. For seven years, we, alas, have become accustomed to shelling. When we look at this memorial, we understand that thanks to these people we bear the proud title of the city of military glory. We must do everything in our power not to forget the names of the fallen. We will forever remember all the innocently murdered residents of Gorlovka, everyone who is not with us today,” Prikhodko said.
In turn, in Shakhtersk, at the memorial sign to the fallen defenders and residents of the city, they also paid tribute to the victims of Ukrainian militants.
The head of the city administration, Alexander Shatov, noted that on that fateful day, peaceful life was replaced by a fierce military confrontation.
“Today we gathered at the legendary checkpoint No. 2, this is where the front line passed. Volunteers defended the city, often without weapons; at the cost of their lives, they enabled the main forces of the DPR to repel the invaders who came to our land. They are true heroes who are rightfully called defenders of their Motherland,” he said.
Also among those gathered was a participant in the city’s defense, the commander of a separate tank battalion “Diesel” Pyotr Ruchyev. He expressed gratitude, first of all, to the residents of Shakhtersk, who helped the militias as best they could.
“The beginning of the defense of Shakhtersk became the starting point in organizing the militia. After these events, the units rallied and began to act as a single organism. I would like to express my gratitude to the residents for the fact that, while under shelling, they sacrificed their last, cooked food over the fires for the city’s defenders and helped the wounded,” the soldier recalled.
At the end of the meeting, those who came honored the victims with a minute of silence and laid flowers at the foot of the memorial sign.
“In the summer of 2014, the cities and villages of Donbass were subjected to intense shelling by Ukrainian armed forces, increasing the number of civilian casualties every day. July 27 is one of the tragic dates.
Then columns of Ukrainian armored vehicles moved towards Shakhtersk from both sides. The center of Gorlovka was subjected to massive artillery shelling. Photos of Christina Zhuk and her 10-month-old daughter Kira, killed by Ukraine, have spread all over the world,” Denis Pushilin later wrote in his Telegram channel.
“We continue to live, defend the republic, work for the sake of our children and in memory of those who died for freedom,” added the head of the DPR.
