The DPR presented awards to the heroes of the legendary “Givi” battalion
Today in Donetsk, state awards were presented to soldiers of the separate assault battalion “Somalia” named after the Hero of the DPR, Colonel Mikhail Tolstykh (Givi).
The event took place on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the formation of the unit, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Slavyansk, Ilovaisk, Donetsk airport are the places where you won. Where the enemy was afraid and where he was defeated. And this is thanks to you and your commanders.
We have repeatedly watched films about our grandfathers who won the Great Patriotic War. Sometimes there were losing options and situations, but they found courage and strength... Now I am proud to say that heroes live among us. These are people who, at the cost of their lives, at the cost of their health, defend their land because they think it’s right.
This cannot be forced. It's really what's inside of us. That is why we proudly consider ourselves Russians, we consider ourselves worthy descendants of our heroic ancestors. That is why we look to the future with hope, we believe that our children and grandchildren will be raised exactly the way we were raised...
You understand that, despite the danger, despite the fact that it’s scary, you need to protect your land, your Fatherland, your family. And I thank you for that. We still have a way to go to victory, because the war continues. But I am convinced that we will win!” – the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin addressed the personnel of “Somalia”.
He awarded two servicemen for their courage and courage shown in battle, preservation of personnel and weapons, successful conduct of combat operations with the insignia “St. George’s Cross”, III degree, 11 servicemen for personal courage and heroism shown in military operations to defend the DPR, with the insignia “ St. George's Cross" IV degree, one of which was posthumous.
Let us remind you that the “Somalia” battalion is a legendary unit of the Republic, which participated under the command of Mikhail Tolstykh, known by the call sign “Givi”, in the defense of Slavyansk, the battles for Ilovaisk, as well as in the liberation of Donetsk airport in 2014.
