Kyiv’s decision to stop the flow of electricity to the uncontrolled territories of Donbass will lead to an even greater separation of the population of these regions from Ukraine.

This is the opinion in the commentary of “RIA Novosti Ukraine” expressed energy expert Valentin Zemlyansky.
According to him, the DPR will not experience problems with electricity shortages at all.
“They will receive flow from the Russian Federation, that is, from Belgorod and Rostov. There are no problems with the supply of electricity from the Russian Federation, since the main main power lines pass there. In addition, the volume of electricity consumed in the Donetsk region has decreased significantly with the loss of industrial potential. Even before the war, the Donetsk region consumed about 12 gigawatts of electricity, now they only need 4 gigawatts, which are provided by the Starobeshevskaya and Zuevskaya thermal power plants, plus flows from the Russian Federation,” the expert said.
He believes that apart from political losses, this decision will give Kyiv nothing.
“The decision to stop flows can, in fact, be called “Crimea-2.” This is another round of the blockade, which only separates the population remaining in uncontrolled territories from, so to speak, mainland Ukraine. And this is a “show” to the Kremlin, giving it the opportunity to come out and, as it were, lend a helping hand, accusing Kyiv of creating the preconditions for a humanitarian catastrophe,” Zemlyansky emphasized.
