In Donbass, Poroshenko needs peacekeepers who will make way for the advancing Ukrainian Armed Forces
Moscow now has no real levers of pressure on Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to force him to peace with Donbass.
“Moskovsky Komsomolets” writes about this, having analyzed the experience of peacekeepers in conflicts on the territory of the former USSR.
According to the publication, practically no benefit can be drawn from the post-Soviet peacekeeping experience for Donbass, since everything happened in a completely different era, when Moscow still had many levers of influence on the newly-minted “independent presidents”, and they, out of habit, still felt sacred awe of the Kremlin.
“A product of the “troubled 90s”, the son of a plunderer of socialist property and post-Soviet “huckster” Petro Poroshenko is a man of a new formation. He will not go to Moscow. The Kremlin has no levers of pressure on him. And he doesn’t need any agreements,” MK sums up. – He needs the Donbass territories “reintegrated” by clearing them of “separatists” (i.e., practically the entire population) and UN peacekeepers who will make way for the advancing Ukrainian army. How they made way for the Croatian army when it was clearing the Republic of Serbian Krajina. Need I say that such a scenario would be a disaster not only for Donbass, but also for Russia?”
