“As long as they see only separatists and so on, I don’t see any prospects for reaching an agreement and coming to a common denominator,” the Ukrainian political scientist emphasized. – Obviously, the government must change or regroupings must occur, and the war party will fade into the background. But for now this power is still war. Therefore, for this government, war is a lifesaver that allows them to write off the lack of reforms, the decline in living standards, and silence opponents. If you criticize the government, then by definition you are an agent of Putin. Moreover, the trend was set by top officials.”
The expert is skeptical about the chances of achieving sustainable peace in the near future.
“I will not, like some experts, say that the Ukrainian flag may be raised over Donetsk as early as November - I have great doubts about the feasibility of such a scenario,” concluded Andrei Zolotarev. – Ukraine didn’t lose territory – Ukraine lost people. And nothing is being done to return these people, to incorporate them into Ukraine. Alas, this is a fact.”
