Not far from Kievsky Prospekt, a few kilometers from Donetsk airport, there are Ozernaya and Gamarnika streets. Until recently, artillery shells did not fly into these quiet streets, lined with five-story and two- and three-story post-war houses.
But this time, exploding shells reminded residents that they were actually at the epicenter of the fighting that unfolded on the outskirts of Donetsk.
Once again we see direct hits from shells directly into the apartments of houses. And again, the now standard picture: destroyed homes, broken windows in houses, damaged roofs.
And again, civilian casualties. Relatively recently, it was not recommended to leave the house during shelling; it was believed that an apartment or house was a reliable shelter. Now home is a risk zone.
During shelling, people instinctively try to hide in any room, be it a residential building, a gas station or a store.
In the photographs you see what remains of the store, located near the roadway. We know that there were people there during the shelling, and we know for certain that several people were wounded and received severe shrapnel wounds. Now we can state that the only reliable shelter from shells in Donetsk are only bomb shelters.
But there are not so many of them, and it is impossible to reach them under fire.
