A monument to the legendary Givi was unveiled in Donetsk
In Donetsk in the capital's Park of Culture and Leisure named after. The Lenin Komsomol held a rally dedicated to the opening of a bust of the Hero of the DPR, commander of the Somali battalion Mikhail Tolstykh (Givi).
This was reported by the press service of the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The event was attended by Head of State Denis Pushilin, Chairman of the Government Alexander Ananchenko, Chairman of the People's Council Vladimir Bidyovka, deputies of the People's Council, friends and comrades of Mikhail Tolstykh, and residents of the Republic.
“We all remember Mikhail as a true patriot, a hero, a courageous and strong man, a good commander. He met the beginning of the war in Slavyansk, then was in the hottest spots and significant battles - Ilovaisk, Debaltsevo, Donetsk airport. He could just stand while shells were flying overhead, make extraordinary decisions that invariably led to victories...
Today we are unveiling a bust of Mikhail Tolstoy, and our descendants will be able to come to the Alley of Heroes and honor the memory of real heroes who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of Donbass.
I would like to express my gratitude to Mikhail’s parents and relatives for the fact that Donbass had and still has a real hero – Givi. I would like to thank the colleagues of his battalion who remember and are doing everything possible so that others know what the “Somalia” battalion is and who Givi is.
Our duty is not to disgrace the honor of heroes. Our task is to do everything possible so that their lives and deaths in the name of freedom and independence do not become in vain! We will win! For the sake of their memory, for the sake of the future of our children!” - said Pushilin.
After which the opening ceremony of the bust of Mikhail Tolstoy took place. The event ended with the laying of flowers.
