The memory of battalion commander "Givi" was honored in Donetsk
On July 19, on the birthday of the DPR Hero Mikhail Tolstykh (“Givi”), the head of the republic Denis Pushilin honored the memory of the legendary battalion commander and laid flowers at his grave.
Mikhail “Givi” Tolstykh – colonel, commander of the “Somalia” battalion. On February 21, 2015, he was awarded the title of Hero of the Donetsk People's Republic. Among his awards are the medals “For the Defense of Slavyansk”, “For the Defense of Ilovaisk”, and two Crosses of St. George.
“Today Mikhail Tolstykh would have turned 40 years old. His military career developed rapidly. Already in 2014, he led a detachment of militias that marched through Slavyansk and Miusinsk and, together with the commander, strengthened their military authority with victory in the battles for Ilovaisk.
Everyone who knew Givi noted his determination, efficiency and composure in the face of danger. He was a military leader from God. The milestones of his life are reflected in the documentary evidence that Mikhail Tolstykh’s mother, Nina Mikhailovna, transferred to the capital’s Museum of the Great Patriotic War, where they are stored.
Three and a half years have passed since the murder of the legendary battalion commander. The pain of the loss does not subside, as does the ardent desire to achieve punishment for all those involved in his death.
We will forever remember Givi as a man of word and deed, a loyal comrade who could always be relied on,” Pushilin said in a statement.
