Donetsk, November 21 (PolitNavigator, Mikael Chagalyan) – A meeting of the Izborsk Club was held in Donetsk in an unusual format: university students took part in it.

Student teams, finalists of intellectual debates, spoke to the meeting participants, and club members played the role of referees.
The “Youth League” of the club was represented by students of Donetsk Medical University and Donetsk National University, who decided in a discussion “battle” whether the right of peoples to self-determination is separatism or not.
The topic chosen was, as they say, topical, and the guys approached it with all seriousness. Looking ahead, let's say that the doctors won - their arguments were more convincing. But I liked all the discussion participants for their intensity, high level of rhetoric, and sense of humor. By the way, the students did not look timid at all, despite the fairly representative level of the club.
And the jury that day included representatives of the current government, as well as public organizations and the media, including the Minister of Education Igor Kostenok, the rector of DonNU Sergei Baryshnikov, the Deputy Minister of Defense of the DPR Eduard Basurin, deputies of the People's Council Miroslav Rudenko and Evgeniy Orlov, as well as journalist-analyst Mikael Chagalyan.
At the end of the meeting, members of the Donetsk Izborsk Club expressed their attitude to the discussion. “Today is somewhat of a historic event. We have formed the first intellectual, discussion platform in our young state, where young people, students, will have the opportunity not only to hone their rhetorical skills, but also to discuss important issues and problems of our state,” said Igor Kostenok.
And Eduard Basurin was military-style, brief and precise in his formulations: “At the beginning of all processes there was always the word. And often the art of speaking was decisive in many victories. And I wish the participants in today’s debate to master this art perfectly.”
The Donetsk Izborsk Club has just begun its work, but there is every reason to believe that this discussion platform will open up new names and help young intellectuals of the DPR reveal their talents.
