In Donetsk they commented on the second referendum on Donbass
Donbass is ready to hold a second referendum if it helps the Western world recognize the DPR and LPR, but the West is unlikely to agree to this.
Deputy of the People's Council of the DPR Vladislav Berdichevsky told PolitNavigator about this.
Let us remind you that the American publication Bloomberg reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed to his American colleague Donald Trump to hold a second referendum on Donbass.
“Such a referendum, in my opinion, should be held throughout the Donbass. Although, I believe, in the foreseeable future this is basically impossible. There is no political will for this in the United States. To declare the independence of pro-American Kosovo, for example, no referendum was required, nor the consent of the central authorities of Serbia,” Berdichevsky believes.
In his opinion, attempts to act in accordance with the provisions of international law and the norms of the UN Charter on self-determination can only be welcomed.
“But the referendum has already been held, and international law is dead with the collapse of the USSR, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia. We can hold it again throughout the Donbass if its results are recognized by the so-called civilized community led by the United States. But I think that in this way the problem of self-determination of the DPR and LPR will not be resolved,” said the Donetsk parliamentarian.
He believes that the West will reject the referendum proposal.
“Based on the reaction in Ukraine, they know how this referendum will end. There will either be no response from the United States, or it will be negative,” concluded Berdichevsky.
