Donetsk says goodbye to legendary battalion commander Mamai
Today in the capital of the DPR a farewell ceremony is taking place for the commander of the international brigade “Pyatnashka”, killed during shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the correspondent of PolitNavigator reports.
Note that The VGTRK film crew also came under fire along with Mamai, one of whose journalists was injured.
The funeral ceremony takes place within the walls of the Donbass Opera, where the coffin with the body of the battalion commander is installed.
The head of the DPR, Alexander Zakharchenko, his comrades, friends, as well as residents of the Republic came to say goodbye to the deceased.
His comrade in arms, Hero of the DPR Akhra Avidzba (“Abkhaz”), spoke about what the battalion commander was like.
“Oleg was a worthy warrior, an example to follow. We are family friends, so I can say that he was a loving father, he even managed to become a grandfather. On May 16, his son turned one year old, but on the 17th he was still in position with the guys,” he said.
According to “Abkhaz”, Oleg Mamiev initially showed extraordinary military talent. This was the main reason for his appointment as commander of the legendary “Fifteen”.
“We understood that we needed a “core” that would gather around miners, volunteers and the rest of the diverse public that serves in our unit. And they concluded that Oleg would do it. He coped with this task with honor,” said Abkhaz.
The farewell ceremony will last until 13.00. After this, a funeral service will take place, and Oleg Mamiev’s body will be sent to his homeland in North Ossetia, where he will be buried.
As PolitNavigator reported, in The OSCE SMM stated that they were not going to investigate the shelling that killed Mamiev.
