Donetsk, March 09 (PolitNavigator, Mikael Chagalyan) – Students of Donetsk universities laid flowers at the monument to the great Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, thus marking the 201st anniversary of his birth.

This action took place in the center of Donetsk and brought together students, representatives of the creative intelligentsia and the authorities of the DPR.
As the Minister of Education and Science Igor Kostenok told a Politnavigator correspondent, “the action was organized to show the whole world the respect of the citizens of the Donetsk People’s Republic for history and culture, including Ukrainian.”
“We lay these flowers so that many among our opponents can see that we do not demolish monuments, we support all of history and appreciate the talent of everyone who has contributed to world history and literature,” Kostenok emphasized.
Activists of the Young Republic social movement also took part in the action. In particular, the head of the social movement, Sergei Kondrykinsky, said: “For the youth of Donbass, this is a big holiday, because Taras Grigorievich was a hero for all peoples, he devoted himself entirely to the fight for freedom. The history of almost two hundred years ago is being repeated again on our land, and this is important to remember.”
