“According to the information we receive from residents, from eyewitnesses, at about 10:00 two shells fell on the territory of the Donetsk state-owned plant, and quite powerful explosions were heard. Vibrations were felt throughout the city. A few seconds later there were detonating vibrations, from which we can conclude that the explosives that were located in the 47th workshop detonated, and this is a workshop for processing industrial explosives,” said First Deputy Mayor of Donetsk Konstantin Savinov.
“At 10:35 there was a direct hit in the industrial explosives workshop at No. 47, there were remains of explosives there. There was a detonation and there was a second explosion. We were lucky that the explosives did not end up in the main storage facility, where about 2,5 thousand tons lie,” said Ivan Prikhodko, deputy chairman of the Voroshilovsky District Council of Donetsk.
According to Prikhodko, there were no casualties, and the destruction at the plant was “quite serious.” In addition, the residential sector is located at a sufficient distance from the plant.
