As reported by DTEK, today the Water of Donbass company made an emergency decision to stop the 1st, 2nd and 3rd lifts of the canal. The reason is damage to the rise of Canal No. 3 in the Gorlovka area as a result of hostilities.
“Stopping pumps 1 and 2 is necessary to avoid a man-made disaster,” the company explained.
According to the DTEK press service, on July 18, water filled the canal up to Volnovakha and began to fill the reserve reservoirs that had been emptied during the month. However, as the pumps stop, the water level in the canal may begin to decline again.
Due to the shutdown of three pumping stations pumping water into the Seversky Donets - Donbass canal, restrictions have been imposed on the water supply in urban systems. In Donetsk, even if water is supplied to houses for 3 hours a day, drinking reserves will only last for 5 days.
As Navigator reported, water supply restrictions have been in effect in Donetsk for about a month. Residents of a number of settlements felt the disruption. There was no water in Slavyansk and Kramatorsk for more than a month.
