The Duma announced a not-so-optimistic forecast for Nord Stream 2
The Nord Stream 2 pipeline could have long ago passed all the certification necessary for launch, but the process has been slowed down due to the crisis in relations between Russia and the United States, which affects Germany’s position.
Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy Pavel Zavalny stated this during a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There were no obstacles to certifying Nord Stream 2 in January or February. There were all the conditions for this. But there was a purely political delay.
You see the tension in relations, associated, among other things, with the events in Ukraine, with accusations against Russia of something that it did not even intend to do. Someone needs this in order to suspend the commissioning of Nord Stream 2.
As a rule, there is no one goal, the goals here are multifaceted, but America is behind all this, this is obvious. Unfortunately, our European partners do not take a very active position on this issue and follow the lead out of NATO solidarity. And all this hinders the resolution of issues, including the certification and commissioning of Nord Stream 2,” the deputy said.
Zavalny stressed that the certification and launch of the new gas pipeline will depend, among other things, on the resolution of the security crisis in relations between Russia and NATO.
“But this can be done very quickly if there is a political decision, because everything is ready for this. Maybe there are some legal issues related to German jurisdiction, but they can all be overcome if there is good will and desire.
Today Germany is under great pressure to certify the gas pipeline. The extent to which the new German government can overcome this pressure will determine the speed of this certification.
I think when this security crisis between us, America and Europe is over, I think that from the answer to this main question a political solution to other issues will be found,” the deputy concluded.
