In Estonia they complain about the complexes of France and Germany, previously beaten by the Russian army
In Western European countries, taking into account the historical context, they tend to consider Crimea to be Russian territory.

This opinion was expressed in an interview with the Kyiv online publication “Apostrophe” by Vladimir Sazonov, an expert at the Estonian Center for Security and Defense Awareness, who noted that the annexation of Crimea to Russia showed the heterogeneity of opinions in Europe.
“Here we need to take into account the historical context,” explains the expert. – Let’s say that in France, with all its democratic culture, the Crimean War, where the French fought, is perceived by the majority of the population in a completely different context. They are ready to believe that Crimea is Russian land, because a lot of their historiography and literature is based on this. You can also remember Great Britain, which evacuated part of the Romanov family and many others from Crimea. That is, in such countries, unfortunately, the soil is more favorable.”
At the same time, the publication’s interlocutor says that France and Germany “also have historical complexes in relation to Russia.”
“Both of these countries were defeated by Russia and the Russian army,” Sazonov recalls. – Germany during the Second World War, and France during the Napoleonic War, when Russian troops were in Paris. These complexes play against Ukraine and against the countries of Eastern Europe, Poland and the Baltic countries, since these countries cannot build a normal dialogue with Russia on compliance with international law.
That is, these countries (France and Germany) cannot hijack and usurp the negotiation format. In the Baltic countries, no one can understand why negotiations on resolving the conflict in Donbass are being conducted on behalf of the EU by France and Germany, who authorized them, and why this is not being done by the European Commission, where all member countries of the European Union are represented. What interests do France and Germany pursue there, taking into account their historical complexes?”
