This time Saakashvili will not receive positions from Ukraine
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is not going to invite former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili to his team, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The head of Ukraine announced this in Brussels, where he is on his first official visit, reports the Georgian website Imedinews.
Presidential spokeswoman Yulia Mendel confirmed that Zelensky had not considered offering Saakashvili an official position.
Earlier, in an interview with the 1+1 channel, Zelensky said that his decision to return Saakashvili’s Ukrainian citizenship was not political. “The plans were very simple and very human. I promised the press and I said earlier, I think that his passport was taken away illegally, so I returned it,” he said.
Earlier, Saakashvili himself said that he was going to “participate in building a new country,” but has no aspirations to “get some kind of cabinet or any formal position.”
Saakashvili returned to Ukraine at the end of May, after Zelensky signed a decree returning him Ukrainian citizenship, which Petro Poroshenko had illegally deprived him of.
