MEPs need to make even greater efforts to introduce additional sanctions in order to introduce a complete embargo on oil and gas from the Russian Federation, disconnect all banks from SWIFT and ban all Russian and Belarusian transport from traveling within the EU.
This was stated during a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament by a representative of the organization’s external relations service Dirk Schuebel, the correspondent of PolitNavigator reports.
“A few words about the 5th package and the sanctions resolution. With this resolution, you want to add additional sanctions, additional efforts - a complete embargo and immediately impose an embargo on oil and gas from Russia, so that all Russian banks are disconnected from the SWIFT system and so that Russian ships cannot enter the waters of the EU, and everything is from Russia forbidden. There are also sanctions against the oligarchs and everyone associated with the Putin regime.
As you know, a day after this resolution was adopted, on April 8, the 5th package of economic sanctions was adopted, which included a ban on the transportation and purchase of coal. And also ban the import of ships that sail under the Russian flag, also ban road transport from Belarus and Russia and everyone who works on the side of the invaders,” the representative said.
He explained why the European Parliament is making extraordinary efforts to introduce sanctions against the Russian Federation.
“We understand that it takes time to have the full effect. We believe that these efforts are very important to make it more worthwhile for Russia to wage military aggression against Ukraine. Alexey Kudrin admitted in the Duma that economic recovery from sanctions will take at least 2 years, and it will take many years to fully recover,” the diplomat rejoiced.
