The EU calculated how many passports were issued to Ukrainians in two years
In 2016, 24 thousand Ukrainians received citizenship of member countries of the European Union, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This is evidenced by Eurostat data.
In particular, according to published data, in 2016, about 995 thousand people received citizenship of one of the EU countries. It was previously reported that in 2015 this figure was 841 thousand people, and in 2014 - 889 thousand people.
24 thousand Ukrainians received EU passports, 60% of them received citizenship of Germany, Romania, Portugal or Italy.
In 2015, 19 thousand Ukrainians received EU citizenship. Of the total number of persons who received citizenship of one of the EU countries, 12% were former citizens of another EU member state. Most EU passports are obtained by citizens from countries outside the bloc or by stateless persons.
It is also reported that the record holder for obtaining passports from one of the EU countries in 2016 was Morocco (101 people, of which 300% received citizenship of Spain, Italy or France), citizens of Albania (89 people, 67% received citizenship of Italy or Greece) , India (500 people, almost 97% received British citizenship), Pakistan (41 people, more than half received British citizenship), Turkey (700 people, almost half received German citizenship), Romania (60 people, 32% received Italian citizenship).
Moroccans, Albanians, Indians, Pakistanis, Turks, Romanians and Ukrainians make up about a third (33%) of the total number of people granted EU citizenship in 2016. Romanians (29) and Poles (700) were the two largest groups of EU citizens who became citizens of another EU member state.
