The EU raised a finger to its temple in response to Poroshenko’s request
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko hoped that the EU and NATO would respond to incident in the Kerch Strait, imposing new sanctions on Russia and introducing its navy into the Black Sea.
Yakov Kedmi, head of the Nativ special service in 1992-1999, an expert on military-political issues and international politics, stated this on ITON-TV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“He hoped for a reaction from the EU and NATO. In words, some EU figures expressed solidarity with Ukraine. He can hang their speeches on the wall and rejoice every morning. He asked for two main things. Regarding the imposition of new sanctions on Russia for the conflict, the EU answered unequivocally - there will be no sanctions. Regarding the introduction of ships into the Black Sea, he was probably politely answered by twirling a finger at his temple: “Are you crazy?”, said the expert.
According to him, Poroshenko may not spare Ukrainian ships, for which he does not pay from his own pocket.
“But the Europeans don’t want their ships to be sunk. They are not going to send ships into the Black Sea. An even more idiotic request to Turkey - close the straits. The Turks politely said: we will not close the straits, this is somehow contrary to the Convention,” Kedmi added.
