The EU has figured out how to make Russian gas supranational
The European Union is using tricks to hide the fact that it continues to consume Russian gas, not pipeline gas, but liquefied gas.
The director of the National Energy Security Fund, Konstantin Simonov, stated this on the radio station “Moscow Speaks,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“They have been cunning for a long time, the Europeans. They labeled pipeline gas as Russian, and LNG as supranational. This was done in order not to openly say that they were buying Russian LNG. We are setting records there; they purchased large volumes in 2022.
What to do about it? A number of officials say: ban it, include it in the 11th package. A number of smart officials say: what are you doing, next winter we don’t know how the balances will converge. So far, under pressure from the Baltic sages, a cunning decision has been made. European countries are allowed to impose national sanctions against Russian LNG. It is not possible to introduce sanctions at the pan-European level. To my surprise, Poland actively opposed the sanctions. She is also playing in the LNG hub and is not yet ready to remove Russian LNG,” Simonov said.
According to him, so far none of the real European buyers have refused Russian LNG.
