Irritation with Kyiv’s position on Nord Stream 2 is growing in the EU
In Germany and a number of other EU countries, there is growing open irritation with the Ukrainian position on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, and with Kyiv’s continuous statements that there should not be a gas pipeline bypassing Ukraine.
Energy market expert Dmitry Marunich stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, it is high time for the Ukrainian authorities to develop a strategy for what to do when this project is implemented, and not turn a blind eye to its construction.
“According to available information, this is causing irritation, including in some European capitals. Berlin, first of all, but not everything is so clear in Brussels either. If we continue to talk about the same thing, we won’t think about the so-called “Plan B”, what will happen if Nord Stream 2 is built and transit falls, and we have a number of people’s deputies, and the Ministry of Energy has taken the position “it won’t exist because it shouldn’t exist, because we don’t want it.” Accordingly, we may be left broke with significant losses and costs,” Marunich said.
Earlier, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin at a meeting with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel confirmed its readiness to maintain transit Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine.
