The EU was horrified to realize what was happening in Ukraine
The European Union is shocked by the level of Ukrainian corruption and is thinking up its own analogue of the “Magnitsky list” in relation to Ukrainian deputies and officials.
Ukrainian lawyer Vitaly Serdyuk, who recently returned from Berlin, announced this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the lawyer, at the conference “Human Rights and Freedom of Speech in Ukraine,” which took place in the German capital, they openly talked about violations of the principles of freedom of speech by the Ukrainian authorities.
“Both from the podium and on the sidelines of the Bundestag, they are already talking directly about the deliberate and systemic disregard by the Ukrainian authorities of the principles of the rule of law and freedom of expression... More and more Europeans are questioning the ability of the Ukrainian authorities and the judiciary system, distorted by it, to implement the basic principles of the Association Agreement and respect the rule of law.
At the same time, it was noted not just the absence of any progress in the fight against corruption, but a real deterioration of the situation, which is greatly affecting Western investors and Western enterprises trying to operate in Ukraine,” writes Serdyuk.
He also adds that all this is compounded by the inability of law enforcement agencies to investigate high-profile crimes.
“Many of my interlocutors from among influential politicians noted that Ukraine cannot move forward successfully without receiving a truthful answer about what happened on the Maidan in February 2014. What is surprising is the government’s concealment of investigation materials from the public after four years of investigation – everyone believes that the country has no future without a clear and objective answer to these questions,” Serdyuk emphasized.
