Natalya Adamenko, an expert on etiquette and diplomatic protocol, head of the Etiquette school, spoke about this in an interview with the Kyiv magazine “Correspondent”, commenting on the appearance of President Poroshenko in public in wrinkled suits.
“Responsibility for the appearance of the President’s costume lies with the protocol service and, partly, with the First Lady. I don’t understand why the tidy Marina Poroshenko doesn’t pay attention to how her husband is dressed. Perhaps our President is so busy that he does not have time for such things,” the expert believes.
She also focused on how Odessa governor Saakashivili dresses.
“I won’t even comment on Mikheil Saakashvili’s appearance. This is from the psychology section: iron, straighten, pull your pants out of your socks. I think that he is not a stupid person and he chose this image for himself, trying to demonstrate to everyone that he does not want to follow the rules. But we should not forget that by neglecting etiquette, a person demonstrates his disrespect for society,” said the head of Etiquette school.
She was also asked whether Poroshenko’s excessively low bow to the guard of honor in Australia was a violation of protocol.
“If Ukraine was one of the five most developed countries in the world, this gesture could be regarded as the gesture of a very polite person. But not in our case. It’s time for us to stop bowing low and learn to live with a straight back,” Adamenko is sure.
