Member of the European Parliament and member of the parliamentary committee of the EU-Ukraine Association Ivan Stefanets stated this in an interview with Izvestia.
“I think it is a common mistake to believe that the agreement automatically entails the right of Ukrainian citizens to permanent residence in the European Union, as well as a work permit and social benefits. This is not true at all,” noted the publication’s interlocutor. – The right to enter the Schengen zone, as well as Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland, will be granted only to those Ukrainians who have biometric passports that fully meet international standards. At the same time, we should not forget that the opportunity to stay in the Schengen zone will be limited to a period of 90 days and only in a certain number of cases, including tourist and business trips, as well as trips for family reasons.”
“I emphasize once again: the visa-free regime between the EU and Ukraine will not affect the issuance of so-called national visas, which allow you to work, study and permanently reside in any of the EU countries. Consideration of applications and decision-making on the issuance of these types of Schengen visas will remain within the competence of each individual country of the union,” Stefanets added.
