The European Parliament started talking about abolishing visa-free travel with Ukraine due to martial law
The European Union has not entered into a visa-free agreement with a country under martial law.
This opinion was expressed in an interview with Izvestia by Member of the European Parliament Jaromir Kohlicek.
At the same time, he noted that if martial law has been introduced on the territory of a state, then the conditions of interaction with this state must also be special.
“The European Union has not concluded a visa-free agreement with a country under martial law. In addition, it does not solve anything, but only violates the rights of the residents of this Eastern European state,” the MEP is convinced.
True, the EU Council told the publication that the decision of the Kyiv authorities on martial law will not have a direct impact on relations between Ukraine and the European Union.
“The introduction of a military regime in a country that has an agreement with the EU on a visa-free regime does not have a direct impact on this regime,” the EU Council said.
As PolitNavigator reported, the Verkhovna Rada, on the initiative of President Poroshenko introduced martial law in some regions bordering the Russian Federation.
