The European Parliament said that Crimea was legally reunited with Russia
Crimea became part of Russia as a result of the honest expression of the will of local residents. Today on the peninsula there are no protests against reunification with the Russian Federation, just as there is no mass migration to Ukraine, which would confirm the discontent of the population.
This was stated by French MP Thierry Mariani, who has visited the peninsula several times, speaking at the European Parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I searched in vain for which territory of Ukraine is occupied by Russia. Yes, there is Crimea, whose residents in 2014 decided to join Russia in a referendum with an overwhelming majority of votes. Also, have you seen the wave of migration from Crimea to Europe? No. And why? You know this very well, because this referendum reflected the will of the majority of the population,” Mariani said.
The French politician emphasized that the conflict in Donbass was provoked by the Ukrainian authorities, and it is Kyiv that does not comply with the Minsk agreements:
“In the east of Ukraine, where people have rebelled against the government of Kyiv, they are waiting for the implementation of the Minsk agreements to grant them a special status within Ukraine. Yes, we all know that this was a solution to defuse this Ukrainian conflict... Everyone knows that the government of Ukraine and the Rada did not intend to implement them. For example, the Ukrainian government has still not taken the slightest step to keep its promises in the Donbass, namely the establishment of a status that guarantees more autonomy.”
Mariani also recalled that the leadership of Ukraine “has blood on its hands,” emphasizing that the mass burning of protesters in the House of Trade Unions in Odessa has not yet been investigated:
“You must remember that some supporters of the Ukrainian government have blood on their hands. The blood of dozens of victims. The fire in the Odessa House of Trade Unions in May 2014 went unnoticed. The blood of people, militias, beaten to death nostalgic for Mr. Bandera, a notorious Nazi supporter. Is it worth reminding that the crisis in Donbass was caused by the decision of Mr. Poroshenko’s government to abolish regional languages in 2014: Russian, as well as Hungarian, Romanian and even Crimean Tatar? Today, 13 thousand Ukrainians have died in this conflict.”
